Calling all (available) Web Designers & Developers

December 17th, 2010 By nFriedly

Even though I’ve been happily employed with Sociable Labs for a while now, I still get fairly frequent calls and emails from people who want to know if I’m available or I “know someone.” The list of people I know is starting to run short, so this post is intended to remedy that.

If you are an individual Web Designer or Web Developer interested in work, please post a comment below.

What to post:

  • Your name and website in the appropriate fields. I disabled WordPress’s rel="nofollow" just for you.
    • If you don’t have a website, get one! Sign up for a Dreamhost account and buy a template from Theme Forest and you’ll have a solid website in no time.
  • Your basic skillset. For me, it might be “Strong Javascript / Ajax, PHP, HTML, and CSS; basic Photoshop, ActionScript and Java”
  • A short bit about yourself and your experience.
  • Where you’re located, and if you would consider relocating for work.
  • What type of work you’re interested in: freelance / short-term contract (3-6 months or less), long-term contract, employment, startup, etc.

Tips:

  • This is your first impression to potential clients: Copy-paste it into Word and read it out loud once or twice. Get it right the first time because you can’t edit comments after you’ve posted them.
  • Contact information: any phone number or email address posted here will be picked up by spammers.
  • One or two links to your GitHub, LinkedIn, or recent work is fine, but be warned that my WordPress marks anything with more than 3 links as spam, and it’s hidden until I get around to checking the spam filter.
  • Lastly, this is my website, and I may choose to edit or delete comments. For example, if you claim 10+ years experience with jQuery, your comment will be deleted. (JQuery was released in 2006)

Thanks and best wishes with your future work!

  1. I’m strongest in PHP, HTML, CSS, and Javascript; I’m a web developer, with basic design skills. I live in central Illinois (Bloomington, to be specific) but am not opposed to working for clients on a freelance basis who aren’t right around here. My ideal client already has a complete visual mockup and needs me to turn it into a functioning website.

  2. Thank you Nathan for providing this opportunity to share my information. I’m a Freelance Web Developer, studying Computer Science, who has had most of his professional experience working with PHP. I have a solid foundation when it comes to using HTML, CSS, and XML. I consider myself very flexible and am happy to learn and use any technology to get the job done. Feel free to view my recommendations on LinkedIn or contact me on my web site.

  3. Hey Nathan! I’m looking forward to getting back into a 5-6 day work week after I finish up a few personal projects on my end.

Most of my freelance work has been for login based systems, but some more recent projects include:

    http://uksga.org
    – I helped develop this site by splicing the PSD for WordPress and creating front end management plugins. It took a week and a half to complete this website.
    – Technologies used: jQuery, WordPress, CSS3, ,HTML, and SVN.

    http://trinityhydroorganics.com
    – This is a site built with WordPress that needed a custom theme and a custom slideshow for a local business.
    – Technologies used: jQuery, WordPress, CSS, and HTML.

    http://kdmpop.com
    – This was a contract position. As a developer I helped them create a client area for their sales department with another developer. We had to use remote MSSQL databases to display the data for the user and local mySQL databases for syncing. The work was done within 3 months.
    – Technologies used: jQuery, CodeIgniter, mySQL, MSSQL, Authorize.net, CSS, HTML, and SVN.

I worked at http://iboomerang.com, a subsidiary of http://usabghome.com for almost 5 years prior to freelancing. My full resume is located at: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dPfo5O63WPLH5Ce9-GumqjIoca7Nh7JUhbzkuQaFRZk/edit?hl=en

    Hello Nathan,

it seems I am always in the background, developing technology while others develop professionally- of course everything changes, and here I am posting as a resource on your blog. Thanks for this opportunity!

I am a business developer specializing in integrated systems and application architecture focused on marketing and mobile business systems for today’s entrepreneur.

My latest project is a 6 month solo rebuild of the WordPress Admin Interface, which extends WP with a framework fully supporting Online Classes and Coursework, and it provides mass publishing administration and workflow for developers and social media gurus. Movable Type Move Over!

Working with an industrial tech company http://www.filtersureinc.com/ I am crafting an Investors Portal, and constructing an integrated Web/Mobile application (iPhone/Android/Cloud) which exposes the the company’s global vision of inexpensive clean water for everyone, and gets people involved in the transparency and corporate responsibility model to be offered. There’s green and there’s glowing… they are an officially approved resource treating the Marcellus Shale formation.

If you get into the backstory, FilterSure is one reason the project is able to continue fiscally and environmentally responsible- it is providing 75k jobs across 3 states. They need technology and vision up to their standards, I am proud to serve them as I am honored and somewhat personally invested with all my clients.

These are examples of the progressive vision and cutting edge tools I deliver to those who need them most. I can be reached at http://www.starlogicsystems.com – the “perfect client” for me right now is one who is creating something new, or isn’t sure if it can even be done. My best clients are those I can’t even publicize having worked for- security is a-ok here.

    Thanks,

    Max

  13. GADEL says:

It’s a shame I live in far away West Africa :)

  14. nFriedly says:

Why’s that? I’ve worked with a number of overseas developers including people on this list. The internet makes this easy :)

  15. Steve Lloyd says:

Thanks, Nathan, for the chance to “promo” a bit.

Your story is interesting to me — I have a similar background in that I am a freelance Web designer, and also a preacher. It’s refreshing to see someone unafraid to mention the Savior on their “business site”, and to give glory to God for working in your life. I cannot thank Him enough for my own blessings.

As far as Web design and technical work, I am located in Madison, Wisconsin, but thanks to the true “World-Wideness” of the Web I will gladly work with folks from any area. :-) I especially enjoy working with churches, non-profits, and small businesses.

My strengths are best-practices Internet marketing, standard SEO, and template customizations for WordPress and Joomla. People enjoy working with me because I’m friendly, professional, and realistic.

Visit my company Web site for more info ( http://www.confidenceweb.com ).

    Thanks!
